Ace 51Talk Application Process

There was a point in my life wherein, I started to think that earning money at home would be wiser than commuting out on a traffic road, losing every precious hour that I could have used for earning money.

With the advancement of technology, plenty of opportunities pop here and there. Who would have thought that the internet wouldn't be just a source of entertainment, but of money as well. There are various freelance work we can find online; and one of them is online teaching.

As soon as you see this advertisement what would first pop into your mind? It would probably be a set of "Isn't that a great deal?","Earn 80k a month just by staying at home and teaching English to kids?"
or probably you have also thought of "Wow, this is easy money."

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but it is not really that easy. You need to prove you are worthy as an English teacher who can provide fun and engaging classes to young and even adult learners. Oh, I can hear your mind bubbling with questions such as, "And how do I prove that?", "Can you tell me how?" Well, you need to have this qualifications to get hired:


  • To qualify you must be a graduate of any 4 year course. (At least 2 years in college as of 4/15/19)
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must have a skype account. (Make one if you don't have it.)
  • Can open 65 peak slots per cut off. (Peak slot schedule: Weekdays: 7:00-9:30 PM Beijing Time; Weekends: 9:00 AM - 9:30 PM Beijing Time)

Step 1: Prepare your home work space:
  • Desktop, Mac or Laptop
    •  (Windows 7 or higher, Dual-core processor 1Ghz or above, Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 or AMD equivalent, 4 GB Ram and 60 GB HDD)
  • Headset with microphone and noise-cancelling feature.
    •  Noise cancelling feature is required so as we could provide quality service to our students by omitting unnecessary noise. You can buy this online, be sure to read the description of the product as well as its reviews when buying online. If you prefer to go to a physical store, ask for assistance and make sure that before leaving the store you had your headphones be tested first.
  • High-definition (HD) external or integrated webcam. 
    • Gritty and grainy images are not allowed. I suggest that you first try out your webcam. If you are satisfied then continue to Step 2, and apply. After the technical check and you failed, do not fret as they will give you a certain number of days to comply for their requirement. You can have that time to buy a new budget friendly webcam.
  •  Wired DSL Internet connection of at least 3 mbps (USB sticks, signal-based & wireless connections are not allowed) 
  • A quiet, clutter-free, and well-lit space in your home


Step 3: Get ready for your initial interview. 
  • Expect to receive a message or call 24 to 48 hours after submitting your application.
  • Make sure that you are in a quiet place and you have a stable network. 
  • Speak in English. Remember, they are looking for effective English speakers. Avoid using your native language.
  • Be confident.
  • If they asked you to sing, then do it. 
  • This is a pass or fail process they will tell you immediately if you pass or fail.

Step 4: 

  • Once you pass the initial interview, you will be scheduled for technical check. Here, they will double check if you have everything that was indicated in step 1. They will check if you are really using a wired internet connection and if you have a noise cancelling headphones with an extended mic. They will also check if your device and webcam meet their standards.
  • This is also a pass or fail process. They will tell you immediately if you pass or fail.
Step 5:

Pre-Service Orientation:
  • Second validation of your equipments. 
  • They will also give you a briefing on how to navigate through the website. 
  • They will tell you about all the requirements you need to submit such as your diploma, latest NBI and etc.
  • This is a pass or fail process. They will tell you immediately if you pass or fail.
Step 6:

New Teacher's Training:

  • Trainers will give you an idea on how to teach with 51Talk. Listen to them as attentively as you can. They will observe everything that you do for your mock demo.
  • Mock demo is a pass or fail process as well. They will tell you immediately if you pass or fail.
Step 7:

Demo Teaching:

  • You are going to do another demo but this time with a chinese evaluator.
  • Do your best.
  • Be confident. I know it is difficult to be very confident when you're so nervous, but hang in there. You're a step closer now. You can definitely make it. 
  • This is a pass or fail process. They will tell you immediately if you pass or fail.
So that's it future teachers! Pray, pray and pray. Do your best and God will do the rest.
